ALAMEDA, CA — A tsunami warning that hit Alameda and the rest of the Bay Area on Dec. 5 was a wake-up call for residents who hadn't previously given much thought to the threat.

According to the City, the Emergency Operations Center was activated immediately, staffed by personnel from the fire and police departments, the City Manager's office, City department heads, and representatives from the school district.

"We deployed emergency personnel to shoreline schools that had been identified as being at possible risk to help ensure safety, began communicating with marinas to secure boats, and issued a warning to residents to stay away from the shoreline," the City reports in a release.

The City plans to host a virtual community presentation on disaster preparedness in 2025. More information will be released in January.
