ALAMEDA, CA — The Alameda Free Library is asking the community to participate in a library card design contest for Library Card Sign-Up Month, the City of Alameda announced Friday.

"The contest invites residents of all ages to submit their original design for a chance to be featured on a new, limited edition library card," city officials said. The contest is open to Alameda residents age 4 and older with an Alameda Free Library card.

Contestants are encouraged to design a library card with the theme "The Alameda Free Library is the Heart of the Community" in mind.

A panel of judges will select contest winners from the four age categories of 4–8, 9–12, 13–17 and 18+ based on the designs' "originality, creativity, reproducibility, and neatness," said officials. The winners will be announced by early November.

In addition to the winning designs being printed as official library cards for the Alameda Free Library, they'll be featured on the library's website and in social media posts, officials shared.
