Bay Area City Will Pay $7M To Cyclist Seriously Injured After Hitting Pothole: Report
The incident left the cyclist in a coma and with long-term injuries, according to a report by KTVU.
OAKLAND, CA — City officials have agreed to pay $7 million to a man who was left with serious injuries after hitting a pothole while cycling in Oakland, according to a report by KTVU.
Ty Whitehead was training for an AIDS ride in the Oakland hills, along Skyline Boulevard, when his wheel struck a pothole, according to the report. The San Francisco resident was thrown over his handlebars after hitting the pothole and landed on the pavement, according to the report.
The impact left him in a coma for two weeks and with permanent disabilities, according to the report.

"I just hope Oakland realizes that it's cheaper to repair the roads than to keep paying cyclists," Whitehead told KTUV in an interview Tuesday. "I don't work anymore, and I have a hard time reading things that are kind of complex."
