  • Meditation: Discover Our Full Potential: Meditation provides physical, psychological and spiritual benefits when practiced regularly. By meditating we become relaxed and calm as we come in contact with a state of inner peace and well-being. By learning and practicing this simple yet profound technique it will become clear how meditation can enhance your life. Join long time meditator and national speaker, Dr. Frank Pawlowski, for this transformational workshop. Frank Pawlowski Ed.D. is an Assistant Superintendent of Business and Finance, now retired from a New York State Public School District. He also filled the role of an Adjunct Professor of School Administration in the Graduate School of Education at Iona College. He has been a practitioner of meditation since 1972.   • Computer Lab Workshop: E-Mail Basics: This workshop will cover the basics of navigating e-mail. Learn how to send and receive messages, navigate your inbox, and practice downloading and navigating files. No computer experience is necessary to attend this workshop, but having an e-mail account and knowing the password is recommended. If no e-mail account is owned, we will review setting a gmail account up. We will be using Chrome browsers and Gmail within a Windows 10 PC setup for this workshop, but all operating systems are welcome. All ages are welcome to attend this class.   • Unsung Women of Music: Join award-winning film composer and music historian Mark Montgomery French for “Unsung Women of Music”, a humorous, highly immersive, and historically accurate presentation that reveals the awe-inspiring female song makers, beat-shakers, and dealmakers nudged to the margins of music history. March 12 at 2pm, on Zoom.Melodies have no gender, but the machinations that deliver melodies are overwhelmingly male. Nevertheless, women have persisted in the creation, performance, production, delivery, and influence of music in all genres. This talk will uncover the truths, introduce you to exciting tunes, and dive deep into the talent and tales of unfairly obscured women in music.   • Teen Advisory Board: Do you wish the library would do more events and programs that you’re interested in? Have you been anxiously awaiting a new book and you want the library to buy it? Do you need an impressive membership to put on your applications and resumes? Join the Teen Advisory Board (TAB) to let the library know what you’re interested in. The Teen Advisory Board is your chance to make a difference in the library for yourself and other teens in Alameda. Members of the Teen Advisory Board will plan be involved in planning Teen programs and choose teen events. Teen Advisory Board members will earn community service hours for every meeting and event that they participate in.
  • Teen Book Club: Teen book club members choose what we read from a variety of titles and genres each month and every book club member gets a free copy of the book to keep. This month’s title is Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron. All teens, ages 13 to 18, are invited to join the book group. *How book club's timeline works: The monthly title will be the book we're discussing when we meet that month. For example, you would pick up your copy and read it by March 2, then we meet on March 2 to talk about it, and vote on the next book to read. Registration link is on the calendar. We will be meeting in person in the Family Study Room at the Main Library. Masks are required. Email Kat at kkong@alamedaca.gov with any questions.
  • Dungeons & Dragons: Want to try Dungeons & Dragons but can’t find a group? Looking for a new party? Come to our Dungeons & Dragons Teen Meetup! We will be playing a stand-alone adventure in 5th edition. No previous experience required. Character sheets will be provided as well as rules explanations and dice.
  • Game Break: Don’t forget to take a break…A GAME BREAK! Try out our new games and/or watch others play. No Registration needed, masks required. Teens only!
  • Teen Writing Group: No Registration needed, masks required. Teens only!
  • Lawyers in the Library: The Lawyers in the Library program provides free 15 minute consultations with a volunteer attorney who will provide guidance on legal matters. Examples of areas covered include landlord/tenant disputes, probate matters, employment problems and other general consumer issues. Please see online calendar for dates and locations.
  • Alameda Library Writers’ Group: This group is open to all adult writers looking for a space to work and an opportunity to connect and share with other writers. Whatever your genre - you are welcome to join the group. Bring your ideas and laptop (or pencil and paper) and start writing. Please enter quietly. Sharing at the end for those interested.
  • Alameda Great Books Discussion Group: Join us for the 2021-2022 discussion series. Alameda Great Books is free and open to the public. Please email the moderator at jeffhitchings.jh@gmail.com for information on how to participate in the Zoom meetings.
  • A Cup of Coffee and a Good Book Club: Monthly book discussions on a wide variety of books and topics. Please call the Main Library at (510) 747-7713 for information on this month's topic/theme.
  • Mystery Book Club: Join the Alameda Free Library’s Mystery Book Club for a fun and engaging literary discussion! Copies are available in our Alameda Free Library collection and through our LINK+ library partners. A limited number of free copies provided by the Friends of the Alameda Library will also be available soon at the Main Library. Please email Refdesk@alamedaca.gov to register for the program and receive the Zoom link.
  • Sneak Peek Saturday: Alameda Free Library's special reading program featuring general adult fiction and non-fiction titles. Join us every Saturday on YouTube for a virtual adult story time.
