City Council and Planning Board to Discuss Alameda Point Plans

The joint meeting Wednesday night will also review the Draft Environmental Impact Report for the project.

A joint meeting of the City Council and Planning Board Wednesday evening will offer the public an opportunity to weigh in on plans to develop Alameda Point.

City Council and Planning Board members are scheduled to review the Draft Environmental Impact Report for the project as well as discuss the city’s goals in turning an abandoned naval air station into a mix of businesses, housing and open space.

Wednesday’s meeting will not be the final chance to comment on the Draft EIR, which city officials estimate cost $2 million to prepare and will be paid for with revenue from commercial leases on Alameda Point. Written comments may also be submitted to the city by mail or email until Oct. 21.

Alameda City Manager John Russo said that once the Draft EIR is approved by the City Council it will become “the blueprint for the base.” Russo said he expects final approval around February of next year.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at Alameda City Hall.
