City Plans Community Garden Volunteer Work Day at Jean Sweeney Open Space
You're asked to sign up in advance if you want to volunteer.

The Alameda Recreation and Parks Department is sponsoring a community garden day of service at the Jean Sweeney Open Space Park, Atlantic Avenue and Constitution Way, on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Projects include weeding, mulching, building planter boxes and compost bins, painting and signage, and you may volunteer for part or all of the day, according to the city announcement.
All ages are welcome, but those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Lunch will be provided for those working a morning shift or all day, with light refreshments for volunteers working an afternoon shift only.
Tools are also provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own work gloves.
If you bike, bring a bike lock and you can park your bike at the work site.
If you drive, park at the Wind River parking lot on Atlantic Avenue. A shuttle and escorted tours across the park will be available.
