From City of Alameda Public Works and Energy Plus: Alameda green news update! Energy-saving LED lights were recently installed at the city’s Civic Center Parking Structure at 1416 Oak Street. This project comes to you via City of Alameda Public Works and Energy Plus, Alameda Municipal Power’s energy-efficiency program for non-residential lighting and refrigeration projects.

“We’re excited to add this project to the list of improvements we’ve made to the Civic Center Parking Structure over the past two years,” said Acting Public Works Director Liam Garland. “Not only are we achieving dramatic energy savings, but the longer lifespan of the new lights will further improve our operations.”
For this project, 141 light fixtures with old “metal halide” lights were retrofitted with LEDs. The city’s rebate comes to nearly $50,000. The energy cost savings will be more than $37,000 per year! The old lights die young, with a lifetime of only 4 years. Compare that to the new LEDs, which have an expected lifetime of 24 years.
