At Nearly $400K, Alameda's Former City Manager Was The Top Paid City Employee In 2021

Former City Manager Eric Levitt was the highest paid employee for Alameda followed by the chief of police and the fire chief.

ALAMEDA, CA — Eric Levitt, Alameda's former city manager was the highest paid government employee in the city in 2021, according to numbers released by the California State Controller's Office.

Coming in at $388,722, with base pay and benefits, Levitt, who left the city earlier this year for a city manager position with the city of Fullerton, began his role as Alameda City Manager in April 2019.

In his three years as city manager, Levitt hired both Nishant Joshi as Alameda's chief of police and Nicholas Luby as Alameda’s Fire Chief.

The next highest paid municipal employee in Alameda was Joshi, with a total wage compensation of $272,122, followed by Luby at $256,884. Fire department-related roles made up five of the city's 10 highest employee wages while police-related roles filled out the remaining four spots.

The highest paid city council members in the state belonged to the city of Los Angeles, with wages sitting above $200,000. The highest paid mayor in the state belonged to San Francisco, with a wage of $353,802, followed by Los Angeles. The ranking did not differentiate between full- and part-time employees.
