Oakland Airport Terminal 1 Demolition Takes Major Step Forward

It's part of a modernization plan that includes constructing new facilities.

OAKLAND, CA— San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport (OAK) has released its Final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for a proposed terminal modernization project.

This milestone moves OAK closer to overhauling its aging terminals, including demolishing parts of Terminal 1 and constructing new facilities.

The project will integrate zero-emission innovations to meet safety and environmental standards.

“The San Francisco Bay Area is a significant gateway utilized by diverse travelers from across the globe,” said Port of Oakland Aviation Director Craig Simon. “This milestone takes us one step closer to show Oakland’s welcoming culture as OAK serves millions of travelers who visit the region.”

Port officials will present the Final EIR to the Oakland Board of Port Commissioners for certification on November 21, 2024.
