Ousted DA Pamela Price To Run Again In 2026: Reports

Price ran as a progressive reformer, but was recalled with 64% of the vote in 2024 when voters elected tough-on-crime candidates statewide.

ALAMEDA COUNTY — Pamela Price, who was recalled in 2024 as the Alameda County District Attorney, announced Thursday that she will run again in 2026.

In a statement, Price said she is looking to ensure that “justice is applied equally, fairly, and without political influence.”

“I am fighting for real solutions that stop the shootings, strengthen prevention efforts, and protect every neighborhood in this county,” she said.

Price, a former civil rights lawyer, was elected in 2022 with 53% of the vote on a progressive, reformist platform, including shorter sentences for certain offenses, new sentences in death penalty cases, and prosecution of law enforcement professionals.

Many critics felt she was too lenient, and blamed her for rising post-pandemic crime rates. She was also accused of mishandling certain cases. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, her office missed deadlines to file charges in about 1,000 misdemeanor cases, and missed the deadline to charge two Alameda police officers with involuntary manslaughter in the 2021 death of a man they pinned to the ground.

Opponents launched a recall effort shortly after her election that garnered enough signatures, making her the first district attorney in Alameda County to face a recall election. In November 2024, 64% of Alameda County voters voted in favor of her recall.

Alameda County supervisors appointed former Superior Court Judge Ursula Jones Dickson to replace her and serve out the rest of her term, which would have lasted until January 2027.
