Ring-Necked Pheasant Visits Alameda Backyard: Photo Of The Day

Forget sparrows and finches — Steve Gorman had this beauty in his garden.

ALAMEDA, CA — Steve Gorman was delighted to spot this bird on a neighbor's roof, then watched as it flew down into his backyard. He did some research on the bird, and tells Patch, "The omnivorous Ring-Necked Pheasant is not native to this area, but the species was taken from its native East Asia in the past, and introduced around the world due to its beauty."
