Ross McCarthy Appointed Alameda’s New Finance Director

The longtime city controller was selected to lead the finance department through economic uncertainty.

ALAMEDA, CA — The City of Alameda has named Ross McCarthy as its new Finance Director, following a competitive recruitment process, City Manager Jennifer Ott announced.

McCarthy has served the city for over three years, first as Controller and most recently as Acting Finance Director. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO), McCarthy brings significant public sector financial management experience to the role.

“Ross is highly experienced and has already made meaningful improvements to the department,” said Ott. “I’m confident he will lead with integrity and help the city strategically navigate these uncertain financial times.”

As Finance Director, McCarthy will oversee the department’s comprehensive financial services and guide strategic budgeting efforts across city operations.
