Special Tax District for Alameda Landing Goes to City Council

Alameda Landing property owners will vote by mail on a ballot measure establishing the district and authorizing a tax levy.

Alameda City Council members are expected to act Tuesday night on a cluster of items that would form a special facilities district for Alameda Landing and could impose a tax levy to fund about $20 million in public facilities within the district.

Alameda Landing land owners will vote by mail on the proposal as soon as it is adopted by council.

Since there are virtually no registered voters with the proposed district's boundaries, votes will be cast by those owning land in the district (or their representatives), at a rate of one vote per acre.

The tax levy will serve as security for bonds issued by the City of Alameda to fund the facilities.

The Alameda Landing mixed use development (home of the new Target store) occupies about 72 acres on former U.S. Navy-owned land off Webster Street.

The council will meet Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m. in the City Hall council chambers, 2263 Santa Clara Ave.

The complete agenda for the meeting and accompanying staff reports are available on the city website here.
