ALAMEDA, Calif. – A swatting incident prompted a shelter-in-place at Alameda High School on Tuesday afternoon after the Alameda Police Department received a tip about a potential armed threat on campus.

Officers arrived at the school around 3 p.m. and, in coordination with school administrators, conducted a full search.

By 3:53 p.m., the search revealed no credible threat, and students were safely released.

Authorities believe the false report aimed to provoke an excessive police response.

Police are continuing to investigate.
