This Week In Alameda: Author Talks, Women Leaders And More
For the Alameda community, the last full week of August has a lot to offer event-wise.

ALAMEDA, CA — This week is full of events happening on the island – and online.
Here are some of the scheduled events:
Author Talks

Alameda Free Library is hosting a virtual "Author Talk" Thursday at 11 a.m. with Dr. Tasha Eurich. Eurich, an organizational psychologist and researcher, will discuss her newest book, “Shatterproof: How to Thrive in a World of Constant Chaos (And why resilience alone isn’t enough)." Books Inc. Alameda will host a reading and book signing event Thursday, at 5 p.m., to celebrate Rachel Richardson's latest release, "Smother: Poems." Richardson, who lives in Berkeley, has published two other poetry collections. Books Inc. Alameda's address is 1344 Park St. Alameda.

Women Leaders Panel
At “Unlock Your Creative Spirit: An Evening with Alameda's Women Arts Leaders” women in leadership roles at three major art organizations in Alameda share their insights with the community. The event, which takes place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., will feature Tara Pilbrow, executive director of the West End Arts District; Rachel Campos, operations manager for Radium Presents; and Jennifer Radakovich, executive director of Rhythmix Cultural Works.
“Whether you're an artist, an entrepreneur, or simply seeking inspiration, their experiences will provide valuable lessons for personal and professional growth,” the event announcement reads.

Qixi Festival
On Thursday, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Julie's Coffee & Tea Garden hosts the Qixi Festival (also known as Chinese Valentine's Day) "Love Across the Milky Way." The event will feature Dr. Samuel Bai, who will talk about the history of Qixi, as well as live music and traditional Chinese poetry readings, food and drinks, and the opportunity to try Chinese painting and calligraphy. Fundraiser
The Mastick Senior Center Thrift Shop is now open to the Alameda community on Tuesdays,
Thursdays and Saturdays. The shop has a variety of unique, affordable offerings. Shopping hours are Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations are accepted on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Every purchase directly supports the programs and services offered at Mastick Senior Center. The address is 1155 Santa Clara Ave., Alameda.
Car Show
The fourth annual "Nick Bianchi Memorial Car Show" gets underway on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Corica Park Golf Course. Preregistration ($35) for the event is required; to register, go here. The event address is 1 Clubhouse Memorial Rd., Alameda.
