Fire Blotter: Teen Stabbed
An 18-year-old suffering from stab wounds went into cardiac arrest while en route to Huntington Memorial Hospital.

The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of Dec. 18-24. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this period:

Dec. 18
• At 9:50 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105 and Battalion 105 with Monrovia and Los Angeles County Fire units, responded to the 1000 block of East Royal Oaks Avenue in the City of Monrovia to a reported structure fire. Fire crews found a fully involved attached garage fire in a single story condominium complex. The fire spread rapidly, involving much of the lower living quarters. Arcadia fire crews assisted with fire extinguishment, ventilation, protection of immediate exposures, salvage and overhaul. The cause of the fire was attributed to hot coals from the fireplace being placed in the garage too close to combustibles. Alhambra and San Gabriel Fire units provided station coverage to Arcadia and Monrovia during the incident. No injuries were reported.
Dec. 20
• At 3:20 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Battalion 105, with units from the Los Angeles County and Pasadena Fire Departments, responded to a structure fire in the 800 block of Fairview Avenue. Fire personnel encountered heavy smoke within the structure and found a small fire in the kitchen. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire, containing the fire to the kitchen. Additional fire crews performed a primary search of the structure, checked for fire extension, and provided ventilation. The fire cause was determined to be accidental. No injuries were reported.
• At 9:41 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to an assault victim in the 1200 block of Golden West Avenue. Fire personnel evaluated a 18-year-old man who . The patient received advanced life support at the scene. including: bleeding control, oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, fluid replacement via intravenous access and blood glucose monitoring. While enroute to the hospital, the patient went into full cardiac arrest and CPR was initiated. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital's Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment. He later died of his wounds.
Dec. 21
• At 6:45 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Monrovia Truck 101, Rescue Ambulance 106 and Battalion 105 responded to a structure fire in the 200 block of West Wisteria Ave. Fire crews discovered a fire contained to the chimney. Engine 107 used a dry chemical extinguisher to knock down the fire in the flue of the chimney. Additional fire personnel checked for signs the flames had spread and provided ventilation.

Dec. 22
• At 10:58 a.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Battalion 105, with units from the Monrovia Fire Department, responded to a structure fire in the 1800 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Fire personnel noted light smoke coming from the structure. Fire personnel gained access to the structure, conducted search and rescue operations and encountered heavy smoke from a fire in the kitchen area. The fire was extinguished and contained to the kitchen.
Dec. 23
• At 5:31 p.m., Engine 105 responded to the 100 block of East Live Oak Avenue for a fire alarm activation. Fire crews encountered heavy smoke in the structure, which activated the fire alarm system. The smoke was caused from food left on the hot stove. Fire personnel provided smoke removal and reset the fire alarm.

Dec. 24
• At 12:54 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the intersection of North Baldwin Avenue and West Foothill Boulevard. Fire crews arrived on scene and found a female patient unconscious from an apparent trip and fall. Paramedics treated the patient on scene with advanced life support measures, including: full cervical spine immobilization, intravenous access, and cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
