• Atascadero cracks down on illegal fireworks with new law and fines (ksby.com) — Atascadero residents now face strict new penalties for any illegal fireworks, with hosts and property occupants liable for fines up to $10,000 per day and possible misdemeanors. The Fireworks Social Host Ordinance, effective immediately after the Dec. 9 council vote, bans all fireworks in city limits and urges neighbors to report violations to Atascadero Police’s non-emergency line or 9-1-1 for emergencies.

(kvpr.org) — Atascadero State Hospital is struggling with some of California’s highest psychiatrist vacancy rates, with about 30% of health positions unfilled and heavy staff attrition in recent years. A new state audit says Atascadero, Porterville, and Salinas Valley facilities increasingly rely on costly contract workers, raising safety concerns for staff and patients while calling for better pay, hiring practices, and recruitment statewide.
