Banning High School Cross Country Teams Running For CIF, League Honors

Both mens and women's teams will represent Banning High School at the CIF Prelims on Saturday, November 15, at Mt. San Antonio College.

BANNING, CA — The Banning High School (BHS) Cross Country teams delivered outstanding performances at the Sun Valley League Championships on Saturday, with the girls’ team capturing the 2025 Sun Valley League Championship title and the boys’ team securing third place overall and advancing to the CIF Prelims, according to a school district press release.

The Lady Broncos dominated the course, earning a first-place team score of 24 points. Four runners placed in the Top 10, earning First Team All-League honors — Xsaiydra Leyva (2nd), Reyna Urquidez (3rd), Alexia Yang (4th), and Faith Villegas (7th). Their combined effort led to a decisive league victory and recognition as the 2025 Sun Valley League Champions.

The boys’ team also turned in a strong performance, finishing third overall with a team score of 80 points and earning their place in the upcoming CIF Prelims on Saturday, November 15, at Mt. San Antonio College. Thomas Carr led the Broncos with a 2nd-place finish, pacing the team to success.

“These student-athletes represent the best of Banning High School — hardworking, disciplined, and determined to improve every day,” said Head Coach Victoria De La Rosa. “I am incredibly proud of their growth this season, both on the course and in the classroom. They truly embody what it means to be a Bronco.”

In addition to their athletic excellence, both teams continue to excel academically. The girls’ team holds a 3.4 unweighted GPA and 3.8 weighted GPA, while the boys’ team maintains a 3.3 unweighted GPA and 3.5 weighted GPA, reflecting their strong commitment to success in all areas.
