Firefighters Douse Brush Fire Near CA-74, Smoke Plume Seen For Miles
Flames burned through extremely dry grass, next to a home just south of the 74 roadway in Homeland.

HOMELAND, CA — A grass fire that erupted Wednesday north of Highway 74 in Homeland blackened about an acre and damaged two vehicles parked outside a home before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported at about 10:50 a.m. in the area of Amanda Avenue and Gilchrist Street, according to the Cal Fire/ Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning through parched grass adjacent to a residential property.

The fire reached the two cars but did not damage the home, according to officials at the scene.
Crews stopped the blaze's forward rate of spread at 11:20 a.m. and completely encircled the brusher minutes later.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
