​Carjacker's Thanksgiving BMW Theft Ends With Non-Lethal Boom: Police

The suspect was found to be a convicted felon on probation with two warrants for his arrest, police said.

VALLEJO, CA — An armed carjacker who stole a BMW in Vallejo on Thanksgiving was persuaded to surrender when police fired a non-lethal 40mm projectile at him, police said.

The incident began when the ski-masked gunman stole a 2001 BMW 740 in an alley near Sonoma Boulevard and Tennessee Street, police said on social media Saturday.

Officers later spotted the BMW driving near Springs Road and Oakwood Avenue and forced it to a stop. The driver leaped from the moving vehicle and ran to a nearby apartment complex, police said.

The armed man took cover between a car and a garage. He refused to surrender until the "shock and awe" of the non-lethal 40mm round that was fired near him, police said.
