• How California's Refinery Closures Hit Asphalt Contractors (forconstructionpros.com) — Valero’s Benicia refinery is slated to stop refining by April 2026, threatening a major share of Northern California’s asphalt binder supply and tightening local diesel markets. Asphalt contractors and public projects across the region could see sharper price swings, shorter bid windows, and tougher contract terms as they adapt to losing Benicia as a key supplier.
   

• Local Roundup: ELITE basketball defeats Esparto (fresnobee.com) — Benicia High boys soccer battled to a 1-1 draw with Will C. Wood on Thursday, keeping local fans watching a tight matchup and setting up their next game Jan. 6 at Rodriguez. • Fairfield Council briefed on brewery fallout (thereporter.com) — Valero’s Benicia refinery relocation, combined with Fairfield’s Anheuser-Busch closure and Vallejo school layoffs, could displace up to 3,000 Solano County workers by early summer. Fairfield officials outlined rapid-response plans, site-reuse efforts, and workforce support aimed at softening the blow for affected families and nearby small businesses.
