DUI Arrests Down in Bay Area Counties on Fourth of July

Several Bay Area counties including Solano County are reporting fewer DUI arrests during the Fourth of July holiday.

In Solano County, officials are reporting four arrests, down from six last year.    Benicia police didn't make any arrests for drunk driving on the Fourth of July though they did receive two reports of possible drunk drivers on East Second Street.

In San Mateo County, 11 people were arrested between 12:01 a.m. on July 3 and midnight on July 4, a sharp drop from the 21 people arrested during the same period last year.

Officials said the decrease is probably due in part to the fact that there was a sobriety checkpoint during the same period last year.

In Santa Clara County, between 12:01 a.m. Wednesday and midnight on Thursday a total of 22 people were arrested, down from 34 arrests last year.
