Fiery Crash Death Investigated In Vallejo
A 25-year-old man died when his car caught fire in a crash on Sonoma Boulevard, police said.
VALLEJO, CA — A man died after a traffic collision Wednesday in Vallejo that resulted in his vehicle becoming engulfed in flames, police said.
Officers encountered the vehicle on fire at 11:13 p.m. as they were patrolling the 800 block of Sonoma Boulevard.
Officers put out the flames with fire extinguishers until firefighters arrived to fully put out the blaze and extract the vehicle's occupant, a 25-year-old man. He was taken to a hospital where he later died of his injuries, police said.

In reconstructing the event, authorities determined that the vehicle being driven by the man was heading north on Sonoma Boulevard when it collided with another vehicle heading south. The man then hit a third vehicle which was also traveling north.
A passenger in the man's car and the driver of the second vehicle suffered mild to moderate injuries, police said. There were no injuries associated with the third vehicle.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Police Department's traffic division.
Wednesday's crash is Vallejo's eighth traffic fatality this year, according to police.
