Man Who Eluded Police For 6 Months Gets Arrested in Benicia Monday Night

Police were dispatched to the area of East 6th Street and East J Street Monday night for a report of a possible prowler. This led to the arrest of a man who had been eluding police since October. 

Here are the details from the Benicia Police Department: 

While searching the area, officers located James Bivens in the rear of a residence in the 1000 block of East 6th Street. Bivens was known to Benicia Police and known to have a Felony arrest warrant for an incident that occurred in Benicia on October 11, 2012.  Bivens was taken into custody without incident and later booked into the Solano County Jail in Fairfield.

[Back on October 11] Benicia Police responded to a report of shots fired on Vista Grande.  Upon arrival, police located an un-occupied vehicle that had been struck by gunfire.  Witnesses described a distinct red Ford Mustang as the responsible vehicle.  According to other witnesses, the Ford Mustang was being driven by James Bivens.  Benicia Police detectives were able to obtain a NO BAIL felony arrest warrant for Bivens.  Bivens has alluded arrest since October 2012. 

This is an excellent example of the collaborative efforts by the officers that handled the initial case, the officers who conducted follow up and located witnesses that could identify Bivens, and the citizen witnesses coming forward and providing crucial eye witness evidence.  Furthermore, the citizens today who reported seeing suspicious looking subjects did not hesitate to contact the Benicia Police, resulting in the contact and arrest of Bivens" said Lt.
