Panel Discussion: Art and Environmentalism

In conjunction with our current exhibition, Vessels, Arts Benicia is hosting "Art and Environmentalism", a panel discussion on June 15 from 1:00-3:00 PM. Panelists include Marilyn Bardet, local environmentalist and activist, Dan Jensen, native plant activist and Volunteer Coordinator for the California Native Plant Society's Willis Lin Jepson Chapter, John Roloff, environmental artist and sculptor, and Carol Dalton, painter. The panel will be moderated by Arts Benicia Director Larnie Fox. Our discussions will shed light on the experiences of these activists and artists and explore the intersection of art and environmentalism. Vessels is an exhibition that explores the intersection between art and environmentalism with the vessel archetype. Humanity shares this vessel planet, which contains us, nurtures us, and protects us from emptiness. The vessel is especially poignant given the locale of Arts Benicia, which is situated between the water and the land and the air, inhabiting a liminal boundary zone with refineries on one side and wilderness on the other. Vessels was juried by Lawrence Rinder, Director of the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. Funding for this exhibition and its programs has been provided by the Valero-Good Neighbor Fund in association with Benicia's Community Sustainability Commission.
