PG&E Equipment Failure May Have Caused Vallejo Power Outage

Nearly 5,000 Vallejo customers were affected by outages New Year's Eve.

VALLEJO, CA — A PG&E equipment failure may have been behind one of two power outages New Year's Eve in Vallejo that together affected nearly 5,000 customers, a company spokeswoman said.

The power went out at about 6:50 p.m. Monday for 870 Vallejo customers and a problem with equipment was being investigated as the cause, spokeswoman Karly Hernandez said.

The other outage affected 3,425 PG&E customers in Vallejo. The power went out at about 5 p.m. New Year's Eve. By 8 p.m., crews had restored power to about 400 of those customers.

Crews worked as safely and as quickly as possible to restore power, Hernandez said.

PG&E is facing scrutiny over whether its equipment is to blame for some wildfires such as the Camp Fire this year in Butte County.
