Rep. Thompson Hosts Vallejo Concussion Discussion

Several former NFL players will speak about concussions they experienced in professional football games.

VALLEJO - U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) will host a panel discussion on concussion identification and prevention at Vallejo High School this morning at 9:50 a.m.

According to information provided, panelists will include: Dr. Bennet Omalu, whose research and discovery of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy in football players was featured in the film Concussion; Ben Lynch and Tony Moll, both Sonoma County natives and former NFL players; and Dr. Ty Affleck, Santa Rosa Sports & Family Medicine Founder, President of North Coast Concussion Management and Team Physician for Santa Rosa Junior College.

Sponsors say after watching the film Concussion in class, this will be an opportunity for students to hear firsthand what it’s like to experience concussions while playing for the NFL and what can be done to better prevent, identify and treat sports-related head injuries.
