Arduous Vacation: Berkeley Officer Biking to LA in HIV/AIDS Ride
Berkeley Police Lt. Randy Files isn't taking his vacation this week lying down. He plans to pedal 545 miles to Los Angeles for the annual AIDS LifeCycle ride, a fundraiser for HIV/AIDS awareness and patient care.

When Berkeley Police Lt. Randy Files takes some vacation time this week, he won't be taking it easy.
He plans to pedal 545 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles to help raise funds for HIV/AIDS awareness and patient care.
He'll be joining about 2,500 other cyclists for the annual, seven-day AIDS LifeCycle ride June 2-9, according to a news release from the Berkeley Police Department.
Files, department operations commander, has participated in the ride for the past 15 years and "has vowed to support this event every year until there is a cure," the department said.
“I have met so many astounding, wonderful people from all walks of life engaged in this fight against HIV/AIDS," he was quoted as saying. "It is truly and honor to stand amongst them.”
AIDS Lifecycle is co-produced by the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center.
