Bay Area Officers Detain Minors Playing With BB Gun At Gunpoint: Police
"We are glad this incident was resolved without anyone being injured, but it underscores an important message," police said.

RICHMOND, CA — A group of minors that appeared to be armed were detained at gunpoint in Richmond. But the minors' weapon turned out to be a realistic-looking BB gun, according to the Richmond Police Department.
Now, the Richmond Police Department is warning community members about the risks of wielding BB guns or replica firearms in public.
It's unclear exactly when the incident took place, but the Richmond Police Department published a statement on social media in regards to a video circulating on social media where officers detained the group at gunpoint.

Officers had been called to the area after someone reported the group holding what appeared to be a gun, police said.
"Given the information provided and the realistic appearance of the object, officers conducted a high-risk detention to ensure everyone’s safety," police said. "Upon investigation, officers determined the item was a BB gun, not a real firearm."

The minors were released by the officers after they ensured the scene was safe, police said.
Police say these fake guns can be easily mistaken for real weapons in "fast-moving situations" and can put whoever is holding them at real risk.
"We are glad this incident was resolved without anyone being injured, but it underscores an important message — leave your BB guns or replica firearms at home," police said. "Please speak with your children and teens about the dangers associated with replica or BB guns."
