​Berkeley DUI Suspect Found In Possession Of Loaded Gun: Cops

A report of a disturbance in the 800 block of Potter Street at around 1:45 a.m. on Dec. 28 precipitated the arrest, police said.

BERKELEY, CA — An East Bay man was arrested last week on suspicion of driving under the influence and for possession of a loaded handgun, the Berkeley Police Department said.

The suspect, identified as a 43-year-old Vallejo man, was arrested Dec. 28 and charged the next day with DUI, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm and an enhancement for refusing a chemical test, police said.

The suspect tried to drive away in a vehicle with noticeable front-end damage that officers quickly located and stopped, police said.

Officers noticed signs of intoxication when they contacted the driver and found a loaded handgun with its serial number scratched off—hidden underneath the front seat.

Officers arrested the suspect after administering sobriety tests, police said.
