Stores Now Open After Fire Department Search for Gas Leak
Durant Avenue at Telegraph is now clear after the Berkeley Fire Department cordoned off four businesses on Wednesday afternoon due to a potential gas leak. No leak was found.
[Update 4:50 p.m.] PG&E spokesperson Tamar Sarkissian said that a crew thoroughly checked the area, and no gas leak was found on Durant Avenue at Telegraph. "The important thing is that a customer did the right thing and called us," she said. "Anytime someone smells gas, they should call 911 and PG&E."
[Update 4:20 p.m.] PG&E has left the scene of a suspected gas leak on the northwest corner of Durant Avenue at Telegraph Avenue, and all businesses orginally cordoned off have been re-opened.
[Update 4 p.m.] The single fire truck has left the scene and three of the four businesses originally cordoned off have been re-opened. Dome Fits remains sectioned off while PG&E searches for a potential gas leak.

The Berkeley Fire Department cordoned off four businesses on Telegraph Avenue at Durant Wednesday afternoon while a PG&E representative searched for the source of an unidentified gas leak.
Two fire trucks arrived on the scene around 2:45 p.m., according to Shane Blood, who works at Dome Fits on Telegraph Avenue.

"They came in and asked if we smelled gas," said Blood. "I hadn't smelled anything in the store though."
A PG&E van arrived on scene, and a single fire truck remained parked outside Yogurt Park until around 4 p.m. Both Telegraph and Durant Avenues remained open, although pedestrian traffic was diverted.
