Berkeley to Host Coastal Cleanup Saturday

Signups are underway now for volunteers to tackle trash along the waterfront as part of a statewide effort.

BERKELEY, CA — The City of Berkeley invites volunteers to participate in Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, a statewide event aimed at removing trash and plastic pollution from beaches, bays, and waterways.

Participants will join community groups and city staff from 9 a.m. to noon at designated areas around the Berkeley Waterfront and Aquatic Park.

Volunteers can register online or at the event, with all participants required to fill out a waiver.

Data from collected trash will be logged using the Clean Swell App to contribute to a global research effort on pollution.

The event is part of a larger statewide campaign that has, over three decades, mobilized more than 1.5 million volunteers to remove 25 million pounds of trash from California's coastlines.

Organizers hope to build on this success while encouraging daily habits to reduce pollution.
