Berkeley Shooting Suspect Arrested: Cops

Officers found a loaded un-serialized "ghost" gun during a search of the suspect's home, police said.

BERKELEY, CA — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a Berkeley shooting earlier this year, police said.

The suspect, a 19-year-old Berkeley man, was arrested Friday in connection with the Feb. 25 Greg Brown Park shooting, police said.

No injuries were reported.

A witness at around 4:50 p.m. on Feb. 25. flagged-down a patrol officer about the shooting, police said.

A 6-year-old girl and her babysitter were in the park along with another parent and child playing on a nearly basketball court around the time of the shooting, police said.

“Thankfully, no one was struck by the gunfire,” police said in a statement.

Security footage of the shooting, which occurred inside the park during an apparent drug deal, along with information from witnesses, helped authorities identify the suspect, according to police.

Officers found a loaded un-serialized “ghost” gun along with additional evidence of the crime during a search of the suspect's home, police said.

Prosecutors on Monday charged the suspect with willfully discharging a firearm in a negligent manner, willfully causing a child to suffer, and several criminal enhancements.
