RICHMOND, CA — The remains of a human foot were found in an athletic shoe on a beach in the East Bay on Saturday. Authorities are investigating whether it belongs to a person who died of suicide or another victim, the East Bay Times reported.

Little is known about the remains, except that it is a right foot about size 6½ to 7. Police were not able to specify whether the foot belonged to a man or a woman. Remains were found inside a blue Saucony running shoe around 2:45 p.m. by a person walking along the beach at Point San Pablo, the newspaper reported.

Police Sgt. Aaron Pomeroy said the remains could be from a person who died after jumping from the Golden Gate or Richmond-San Rafael bridge. It is not uncommon for human remains, particularly fingers and feet, to wash ashore due to the direction of the tide, he said.
