Surveying Occupy Berkeley: Why Are You Here?
Berkeley Patch asked 20 people participating in the Occupy Berkeley rally why they had attended. Here are the responses.
The Occupy Berkeley movement, like the Occupy Wall Street movement and all the others around the country, has drawn people with a range of grievances to profess.
On Saturday, , drawing a crowd of around 200 people. Berkeley Patch asked 20 people at the rally why they were attending. Most participants responded that they were protesting corporate greed. "Major corporations are out of control," said one protester. "The people responsible for the Recession have not been brought to justice," said another. "I'm tired of the corporate rip-off," said a third.
Despite the underlying theme of financial inequality in America, participants expressed a range of motivations for attending the rally. Some were concerned about the lack of jobs for young people, while others said they "just wanted to see the movement grow."
