Burlingame Shelter Dogs Get Special Treat

Dogs at the Tom and Annette Lantos Center for Compassion in Burlingame will receive a special Thanksgiving treat Wednesday.

Dogs at the Peninsula Humane Society in Burlingame will be served a special canine version of pumpkin pie this afternoon.

At 1:30 p.m., staff and volunteers at the PHS' new Tom and Annette Lantos Center For Compassion will be serving up Thanksgiving pumpkin treats for dogs who are without a home this holiday season, PHS spokesman Scott Delucchi said.

The doggie pies, which were invented by PHS volunteer Jeff Bratu, are made up of turkey broth, water, canned pumpkin, peanut butter and broccoli frozen into a dog-biscuit pie crust.

The "pupsicle" pies were specially created as a healthy pre-Thanksgiving treat for all the dogs at the shelter looking for homes.

The public is invited to take part in the pre-holiday festivities and check out the new 56,000-square-foot facility, which opened at 1450 Rollins Road in September.
