High Winds, Below-Freezing Temps Forecast For Calabasas

Calabasas is expected to be hit with intense weather this weekend; forecasters have issued high wind and freeze warnings for the area.

CALABASAS, CA — As another storm readies to arrive in Southern California this weekend, forecasters are warning of wind gusts of up to 80 mph and below-freezing temperatures in parts of Calabasas.

The National Weather Service on Friday issued a High Wind Warning for the Santa Monica Mountains, Malibu, Topanga, the western San Gabriel Mountains, the Santa Clarita Valley and the 5 Freeway corridor through the Angeles National Forest. The warning also covers parts of Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

The warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday until 7 p.m. Sunday, when winds between 25 and 35 mph are expected, along with gusts of up to 70 mph. Some isolated gusts of 80 mph are also forecast, according to the NWS.

The winds are expected to cause downed trees and power lines; electricity outages are also likely. Travel, especially for high-profile vehicles, will be difficult, the NWS said.

"People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive," the NWS warned.

Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing for an extended period of time Friday night into Saturday morning in the Ojai Valley and the Calabasas/Agoura Hills area, according to the NWS.

Cool and dry conditions are expected Friday and during the day Saturday in LA County. When the storm system enters the region Saturday night, "very light rain" is possible in eastern LA County. The snow level will drop below 3,500 feet, bringing several inches of snow in the Grapevine area, according to the NWS.
