Power shutoffs are likely in southern mountainside areas of Calabasas Wednesday afternoon amid high fire risk.

CALABASAS, CA — Power shutoffs are likely in southern mountainside areas of Calabasas Wednesday afternoon as high winds and low humidity have raised the risk of fire danger, according to city officials.
Southern California Electric said power may be shut off in the southern areas of Calabasas, as well as in Monte Nido and North Topanga between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday.
It comes ahead of a Fire Weather Watch that will be in effect from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday for a swath of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, including the Malibu and Calabasas areas.

Winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected along with isolated gusts up to 55 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Southern California Edison has warned that it could shut off power to a section of Calabasas to reduce the risk of its equipment causing a fire. Several hillside and mountain areas could be impacted. Among them are a long corridor around Mulholland Highway, including Calabasas High School, and a portion of Las Virgenes Road south of the 101 Freeway.
