Amber Alert Lifted: Suspect Arrested In Co. On Child Endangerment

A mother who left San Jose with her two children launching an amber alert was apprehended by El Paso County Sheriff's, Colo. deputies.

SAN JOSE, CA -- The woman who during a supervised visit with her two children spawned a statewide amber alert when she left California with them Saturday was taken into custody by El Paso County Sheriff's deputies in Colorado Monday.

The sheriff's department worked with San Jose police to locate the suspect. The two children, her 1-year-son and 11-year-old daughter, were unharmed, police said.

The 33-year-old mother, Diana Moreira, was booked into the Colorado county's jail on charges of child endangerment and for an outstanding kidnapping warrant. Moreira had lost custody of the children who were under the care of Child Protective Services, police said.

When Moreira met with the children while a social worker was present, Moreira nabbed her son Alexander while the Protective Services employee escorted the daughter Prescilla Penaloza to the restroom at the children's home in the 600 block of King Road in San Jose. The daughter later went missing as the social worker searched for Moreira.
