Bike Thief Took Bait, Arrested By Campbell Police
Campbell police officers placed a bicycle as bait to find an alleged chronic thief at a residential complex near the Los Gatos Creek Trail.

CAMPBELL, CA -- Police are luring criminals in particular thieves with the department's bait program, catching Tuesday a transient stealing a bicycle with a GPS device planted on it near the widely popular Los Gatos Creek Trail.
Michael Powell, 40, took the bait, and responding officers zeroed in on the suspect located at the 2000 block of Bascom Avenue. He was consequently arrested on grand theft and possession of theft tools and methamphetamine. Campbell police have a variety of "bait packages" it now uses to catch thieves.
"We are turning the tables on criminals and sending a clear message to potential thieves: Don't come to Campbell to steal," Capt. Gary Berg said.
