Bomb Squad At Middle School: Suspicious Liquid Labeled 'Nitroglycerin' Found

Bomb squad officers with the San Jose Police Dept. removed a suspicious bottle of liquid from a South San Jose charter middle school Friday.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA -- Bomb squad officers with the San Jose Police Department removed a suspicious bottle of liquid from a South San Jose charter middle school Friday morning, police said.

Officers responded to Bridges Academy at 1702 McLaughlin Ave. around 8:20 a.m. on May 19 after a school staff member reported finding a backpack containing the bottle, which was labeled "nitroglycerin."

The school was evacuated and traffic on McLaughlin between Bacchus and Audubon drives was blocked.

Officers will test the liquid elsewhere before they dispose of it, San Jose police Sgt. Enrique Garcia said.

Police reopened McLaughlin to traffic around 11:30 am, about 30 minutes after they finished sweeping the school.
