Elderly SCC Inmate Dies From Medical Condition
Officials said the man was in declining health and was being considered for compassionate release before his death Monday.
SAN JOSE, CA — An elderly inmate in declining health died Monday while receiving care at Valley Medical Center, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. Officials said the man had an advanced medical condition and a do-not-resuscitate order on file and was being considered for compassionate release in the days before his death.
The man had been in jail custody since 2018 on a warrant for multiple felony sex offenses and had been housed in the infirmary at the main jail, the sheriff's office said. He was admitted to the hospital for higher-level care last Tuesday.
The major crimes unit will investigate the death according to standard protocol, but officials said there were no signs of foul play. The man's identity is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.
