Fatal South Bay Shooting Suspect Arrested In Mexico: Cops

Jose Alberto Aguirre, 28 of San José, was arrested by Mexican authorities, police said.

SAN JOSÉ, CA — The suspect in a fatal South Bay shooting earlier this year was arrested Tuesday in Mexico, authorities said.

Jose Alberto Aguirre, 28 of San José, was arrested by Mexican Authorities in Mexicali, Mexico, the San José Police Department said in a statement.

Aguirre was subsequently turned over to the U.S. Marshals.

He was booked into the Imperial County Main Jail and is awaiting extradition to Santa Clara County to face homicide charges.

Aguirre’s arrest culminated an SJPD probe that began when officers at around 4:30 a.m. April 9 responding to a report of a person down in the area of Meridian Way and Pedro Street found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The man died from his injuries after being taken to a local hospital.

Authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Aguirre on homicide charges after SJPD detectives identified him as the primary suspect, police said.
