I-280 Reopens After Person In Crisis Prompts Freeway Shutdown

The California Highway Patrol shut down the freeway in both directions as crews worked to reach a person experiencing a mental crisis.

SAN JOSE, CA — An emergency response to a person suffering a mental crisis shutdown Interstate 280 in both directions Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP announced the closure a few minutes after 11 a.m. as crews responded to a person at risk of harm near the Meridian Avenue overpass. CHP officers responded to the scene to safely resolve the issue

All lanes reopened within an hour. No further details were immediately available.
