Man Dies Upon Hitting Tree, Overturning Vehicle

SAN JOSE, CA -- A man died when he lost control of his vehicle and it hit a tree last Thursday night , the California Highway Patrol reported.

The call came in at 5:31 p.m. that a Toyota FJ Cruiser was traveling south on State Route 17 and swerved at a high rate of speed. The caller indicated the driver was on both shoulders until it went off the road, struck a tree and overturned. The man, whose identity has not been revealed, died at the scene.

Both southbound lanes were closed, and traffic was diverted around Redwood Estates Drive.

The crash is under investigation.
