Man With Knife Fatally Shot By Deputies In Bay Area: Police

After an hours-long standoff with deputies, police shot and killed a Bay Area man.

SAN JOSE, CA — Sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man Monday evening in San Jose following a traffic stop.

At around 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Santa Clara County Sheriff's deputies said they stopped a car near Fruitdale and Leigh avenues. The driver began acting erratically, police said, and barricaded himself in the car.

Deputies said they tried to get him to come out but he refused for over two hours.

When he did eventually exit the car, he came out with a knife and charged deputies, police said.

At least one deputy opened fire and struck the man, police said.

Paramedics performed lifesaving efforts and he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities did not release the man's name.

The San Jose Police Department are now investigating the incident.
