Man Rescued Off Coyote Creek Log Fleeing From San Jose Police

Paramedics treated the man after responding to the call in which he was trapped on a log on the creek at the end of Gassmann Drive in S.J.

SAN JOSE, CA -- A man caught out on a log in the rushing water of Coyote Creek had an eventful day by mid Tuesday. Rescue crews from the San Jose Fire Department staged a water rescue, then paramedics evaluated the unidentified man who as it turns out was facing trespassing violations. He was attempting to flee from police when he ran into the creek waters.

The suspect was taken to shore on a flotation device, only to receive handcuffs while on a golf cart. He will be booked into the Santa Clara County Jail upon release of the hospital he was transported to by ambulance in the area at the end of Gassmann Drive.

The creek access located west of U.S. Highway 101 and north of the Los Lagos Golf Course is where a homeless encampment has been established.

"This is right where some people had to be rescued two years ago," fire Capt. Mitch Matlow told Patch. "The creek isn't at flood stage, but it's going at a decent clip."

Matlow's crew conducted the rescue within an hour. His advice for those venturing into stream waters comes right off the National Weather Service bulletins: "Turn around, don't drown."
