Mosquitoes With West Nile Detected In Santa Clara County
Officials said next week's anti-mosquito treatment will be the first of the season.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — Mosquitoes confirmed to have West Nile virus were recently discovered in San Jose and unincorporated Santa Clara County, according to the Vector Control District.
Officials said the mosquitoes were found in the 95127 and 95140 ZIP codes. Crews plan to deploy to the area Wednesday to treat the area with truck-mounted equipment. Weather permitting, the work will begin at 10 p.m. on July 24 and should wrap up within two to four hours. The project will be the county's first treatment for West Nile virus of the year.
"It is normal to see an increase in West Nile virus during the summer and early fall because mosquitoes thrive in warm weather," officials said Friday. "The district has a dedicated surveillance program to detect the presence of diseases like West Nile virus, St. Louis encephalitis and western equine encephalitis, all of which are transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes."
