New Chief At Campbell Police Department Begins Next Week

CAMPBELL, CA —Campbell Police Department Capt. Gary Berg will be the city's next police chief as current Chief David Carmichael will retire effective next Monday, police officials said.

Berg was hired in Campbell, starting as a police officer, in 2000, police said. He then worked various assignments, including on the SWAT team.

He also was a field training officer, defensive tactics instructor and child abuse/sexual assault instructor.

According to police officials, Berg was later promoted in 2007 to "police agent" and promoted again in 2009 to sergeant. He was made captain, his current rank, in 2014, where he has managed Field Services, Special Enforcement and Support Services.
Berg said in a statement that he's looking forward to "supporting the men and women of the Campbell Police Department in the amazing work they do each day."
