Rising Author: Brooklyn Boyd, Rolling Hills Middle School

Campbell Union School District's Rising Young Authors series includes published works by 13 local students.

The ninth annual includes 13 students from throughout the district.

Brooklyn Boyd is the Rolling Hills Middle School winner, with her book, Happy Birthday.

Campbell Patch asked seven questions of the 13-year-old eighth grade student and here is what she had to say.

Campbell Patch: Why do you like to write?

Brooklyn Boyd: I started out writing because it was required in school. And worked to get better at it because I wanted a good grade. Then I realized how much I really enjoy it!

Patch: What do you like to write about?

Brooklyn: Anything and everything. From how my day was, to a day on Mars. Anything!

Patch: What is your favorite book?

Brooklyn: Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

Patch: Do you have a favorite character? What do you like about them?

Brooklyn: I love Suzanne Collins' book Hunger Games because it is surprisingly well written and has a unique plot. 

Patch: Do you have a favorite author? What do you like about them?

Brooklyn: Happy Birthday is about a girl who makes an unusual birthday wish.

Patch: What is your book about?

Brooklyn: I really like expressing myself and my creativity. You (and your characters) can say, do, and be anything you want to in your stories.
